CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: International Initiatives Director of Faculty Engagement

The Towson University International Initiatives Office supports comprehensive global engagement by advocating for the integration of international perspectives into the curriculum, the recruitment of international undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree students, and collaboration of faculty with international partners; serving international students and faculty, students who study abroad and away, and English language learners; supporting a diverse and inclusive campus; and developing a globally competent community.

Position Description

The purpose of the position is to support faculty engagement and integration across TU’s international initiatives, including, but not limited to Study Abroad & Away, International Student & Scholar Services, and the English Language Center. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for International Initiatives, the Director of Faculty Engagement will work closely with units within the Office of International Initiatives and with Faculty, Deans, and Associate Deans across the Colleges.

Responsibilities shall include:

  • Study Abroad & Away Curriculum Integration
    • In support of the TU International strategic plan, work with TU Study Abroad and Away staff, study abroad and away faculty leaders, department chairs, and faculty to ensure that TU-supported study abroad and away programs, including TU faculty led, TU program, non-TU program, and exchange programs are aligned with and integrated in university core or degree program curricula.
    • Work with college and department leaders to identify new opportunities to support curricular outcomes through study abroad and away.
  • Faculty Engagement
    • Engage and recruit faculty to lead and/or develop new study abroad and away programs, particularly in departments that are underrepresented in study abroad programming.
    • Educate faculty and advisers on the benefits of study abroad and away, and the pathways through which all TU students can participate.
    • Support new faculty leaders though materials development and dissemination, workshops and orientations, and coaching on standard and practices.
    • In partnership with the International Student and Scholar Services Office, develop and deliver training programs to familiarize faculty working with international students.
    • Coach and mentor faculty on managing personal or academic challenges related to international students.
  • Partnership Development
    • Engage current and future partner institutions abroad, while working with faculty and departments to identify, develop, and/or expand opportunities for student and scholar exchange, collaborative research, and other forms of international, academic engagement.
  • Strategic Priorities
    • Contribute to other TU International strategic priorities as a senior member of the TU international leadership team.

The Director of Faculty Engagement shall be a tenured TU faculty member or permanent-status librarian and shall have responsibilities during both the academic year and the summer.  In addition to compensation as Director of Faculty Engagement, the position carries a half-time teaching load during the fall and spring semesters for tenured faculty members, and a 30 percent workload for permanent-status librarians.  Approval by the relevant college/library dean and department chair are required. The incoming Director of Faculty Engagement shall assume duties in February 2024 with an initial term of two years.
