Study Away in Puerto Rico during Summer 2024

Study away in Puerto Rico with Towson University in Summer 2024! Discover how arts integration and cultural immersion impact the understanding of urban education. Gain a global perspective on educational inequity through a critical lens and learn how to identify, describe, and explain the historical, political, and socioeconomic contexts that shape the role of the arts, creativity, and language as an agent for educational success. Compare the arts and educational philosophies across cultures and how socio-cultural, geographic, and political events influence education though hands-on creativity and community-building.

Participants will have the unique opportunity to engage with local arts and educational organizations and K12 learners and educators in Puerto Rico. Program highlights include guest lectures, educational visits, and cultural excursions to Old San JuanMuseo de Arte de Puerto Rico, and Pinones.

Participants will take either ELED 494 Travel and Study in Elementary Education (3 credits) or ELED 202 Historical and Contemporary Perspectives: America’s Urban Schools (Core 10, 3 credits) with Professors Morna McNulty and Judith Guerrero.

The application deadline is March 15, 2024. Full program details and the application are available in Horizons.
