Construction Notice: Towson Run Stream Restoration

A restoration project is scheduled to begin on a portion of Towson Run, from Osler Drive to Emerson Drive as part of the university’s stormwater compliance with the Chesapeake Bay Restoration requirements under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System General Permit for Discharges from State and Federal Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (General NPDES No. MDR055501).

The project will take place from October 1 through December 31. It will include realigning the existing stream to create a single channel with stable banks and adjacent floodplains. To achieve the restoration goals of reducing erosion and the subsequent sediment and nutrients downstream, 77 trees will be removed in the coming weeks and the site will be replanted with 568 trees and 511 shrubs in Spring of 2024.

Towson Run is part of the Jones Falls Watershed and is located on the university’s campus that runs parallel to Towsontown Blvd.
