Department of Biological Science: Seminar Announcement

Biological Applications of Atomic Force Microscopy: Recent Advances and Current Capabilities
Dr. David Schaefer, Chair of the Physics, Astronomy, and Geosciences

The Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), invented in 1986, has matured into a powerful instrument capable of true atomic resolution imaging, force measurements at the level of sub-piconewtons, and as a nanoscale manipulation tool. In this presentation, Dr. Schaefer will provide an overview of how AFM is being used in the field of biological sciences. Additionally, he will describe the instrumental capabilities of Towson University’s AFM lab with examples of current projects.
