TU Families in Global Perspective: South Korea – Apply now!
Experience vibrant Seoul, South Korea with Towson University in summer 2023! Explore the causes and consequences of variations in family patterns and family system functions among diverse and dynamic societies and gain an understanding of various aspects of global family issues. Examine how major geo-political issues related to socio-economic disparities, discrimination based on religious and ethnic minorities, and labor-related migration and immigration debates influence the lived experiences of families in South Korea differently than in the United States. Through guest lectures, group discussion, and experiential learning activities, students will apply course concepts and theories to real world situations while immersed in the Korean culture.
The program features visits to governmental and non-profit organizations, Bukchon Village, and the Gyeongbokgung Palace, a community service project working with local multicultural families, and a half-day tour of the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)
Participants will take FMST 210 Families in Global Perspective (3 credits, Core 12) with Dr. Bethany Willis-Hepp.
