TU Film Festivals and Film Culture in Ireland

Discover the richly cinematic culture and history of Ireland and Northern Ireland with TU in Summer 2023. Attend the world-renowned Galway Film Fleadh (festival) and watch groundbreaking independent cinema while interacting with upcoming filmmakers and fellow cinephiles. Learn about Irish film production and history while walking the historic streets of DublinGalway, and Belfast – backdrops to a range of culturally significant Irish films including Belfast (2021), Brooklyn (2015), My Left Foot (1989), Barry Lyndon (1975), The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006), and many more.

Program highlights include guest lectures from Ireland-based filmmakers and festival staff, a Game of Throne site tour, visits to Kilkenny Castle and the National Gallery of Ireland, a tour of Ardmore Studios, and a service-learning creative activity.

Participants will choose to take one of the following: EMF 477 Special Topics in Film and Media Studies (3 credits), EMF 476 Special Topics in Electronic Media Production (3 credits), IDFA 203 Creativity in Arts, Media, and Communication  (3 credits, Core 4), or ART 370 Special Topics in Art (3 credits) with Prof. Joseph Kraemer.

*Students taking ART 370 must have completed at least 18 ART credits.
