A sabbatical at home replaced the sabbatical I planned performing research abroad My plans included learning other next generation sequencing (instrumentation and evidence analysis When a global pandemic closed borders to international travel, I had to refocus my project I remained committed to my goals of advancing my NGS and trace evidence knowledge and skills I completed a textbook on NGS for forensic scientists, disseminated numerous projects, secured funding for new lab work, communicated my work in new mediums, developed new partnerships, and embarked on a new project as the editor of a book on counterfeit drugs.
