Spring 2022 Commencement – Parking and Traffic Impacts & Information

In celebration of our graduates, Towson University Spring Commencement ceremonies will be held Wednesday, May 25, Thursday, May 26, and Friday, May 27, 2022. There will be one ceremony each day at Unitas Stadium, with a total attendance of more than 10,000 graduates and guests.

Please expect and prepare for significant impacts on parking and traffic across the campus and on the surrounding roads, between 7 a.m.- 9 a.m. and noon – 2 p.m. each day. In order to provide full support for the TU commencement ceremonies, Parking & Transportation Service offices will be closed from May 25 to May 27, 2022.

Parking Restrictions & Shuttle Information

  • Restricted Parking – Graduation parking permits or Accessible ADA permits/plates are required in the areas indicated below. Faculty/Staff (F/S) permits will NOT be accepted in these areas until after 2 p.m. each day (if spaces are available):
    • The Union and Glen Garages – commencement permit required on each of the commencement days.
    • All Stadium Lots (4, 5, 6, 7 & 8) located near SECU Arena and Johnny Unitas Stadium. Those working in the stadium area should see their supervisor about obtaining a commencement permit to access the area during these days. If unable to obtain a commencement permit, F/S will need to park in general parking areas.
  • General parking for commencement guests and F/S without a commencement permit will be available in the West Village and Towsontown garage as well as surface lots on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the limited availability of general parking, those attending graduation ceremonies are strongly encouraged to carpool.
  • Faculty and staff working commencement are encouraged to park in the Administration Building lots, 9 or 10. Volunteers are to check-in and receive their credentials in the Administration Building. Shuttles to/from the stadium area will be available at Stop #14 on the Glen garage side of Cross Campus drive.
  • There will be absolutely NO drop-offs allowed at the Stadium, Towson Center and/or SECU Arena.
  • All graduates are strongly encouraged to have guests carpool in the vehicle that will have the commencement permit.

Miscellaneous Graduate Information:

  • Parking lots open at 7 a.m. Those arriving before the parking lots are available may be redirected to the West Village Garage.
  • Shuttles will begin operating at 7:00 a.m., to take guests from the Union, Glen, Towsontown, and West Village Garages directly to the Stadium. They will continue to operate until 90 minutes after each ceremony ends.
  • Balloons and noisemakers are prohibited in the stadium for the ceremonies. For more safety information please see the Commencement website.
