Now Accepting Applications for Faculty Cohort on Writing Pedagogy
FACET and the TU Writing Center are now accepting applications from faculty in any department or college who wish to learn best practices for teaching writing and have a Writing Fellow embedded in one of their fall 2022 courses.
Faculty selected to participate will earn a $1000 stipend to participate in a week-long professional development seminar that covers connections between thinking and writing, writing threshold concepts, writing assignment design based on disciplinary thresholds and the PACT framework, methods for providing feedback on writing, methods for grading student work and collaborative techniques for integrating Writing Fellows into a class.
Program Expectations
Faculty chosen to participate would be asked to meet the following expectations:
- Attend the week-long Summer Writing Pedagogy Retreat and complete all assigned reading and homework
- Revise syllabus, signature assignment, and rubrics for the fellowed course
- Provide mentoring and guidance for embedded Writing Fellow in the fall (required) and spring (optional) semester
- Attend monthly faculty cohort meetings during the fall term
- Give a presentation about teaching writing in their disciplines (Qualifying presentations include a poster session, panel discussion, or other presentation at the TU Educator’s Summit or similar presentation geared toward improving teaching in the TU community.)
Application Criteria for Faculty
- Teach a writing-intensive course. Courses are considered “writing-intensive” if they include at least 2 major writing assignments. Priority will be given to faculty who teach TSEM and Core 9 classes.
- Provide a syllabus and sample signature writing assignment for the course you would like to fellow.
- Demonstrate interest in 1) having a Writing Fellow in the course, 2) deepening your knowledge of teaching with/about writing, and 3) coaching and supporting students in writing as a process.
