Defect Engineering of Thermoelectric Semiconducting Bulks

With the developments of science and technique, energy requirements have increased exponentially in the past decades.  Because of the fast energy-consuming and coming global energy shortage, it is urgent to find renewable energy to solve the energy crisis in the coming decades.  The thermoelectric technique is one potential way to recycle waste heat and harvest solar energy to produce green electricity.   At present, the efficiency of the state-of-art thermoelectric devices is still low for industrial electric generators and air conditioners/refrigerators.  In this talk, I’ll present the recent developments in thermoelectric nanocomposites, in which various defects were introduced to enhance phonon scattering.  Thermoelectric performances were significantly enhanced through defect engineering.  The electron-phonon scattering, and industrial applications will be discussed.
