Thursday, April 7, 6:30pm |  Lecture Hall 238  |  and Zoom

This year’s John Gissendanner Memorial Lecture in African and African American Studies features guest lecturer Martha S. Jones, award-winning author of Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All. Dr. Jones will explore what historical thinking reveals about the nature of democracy in the United States. She will discuss how two central questions – citizenship and voting rights – have troubled the United States from its very start, and how these two facets of our democracy continue to pose challenges in our time as they have every preceding generation.
