Archaeological Applications of Geosciences:
Stone Tools, Pottery and More Archaeology is an interdisciplinary science, borrowing methods from a variety of disciplines including geosciences, biology, zoology, information science, environmental science, geography, physics and chemistry. As practitioners of anthropology, archaeologists study humans in terms of their biology, behavior, and culture. Unlike cultural anthropologists, who study the behavior and culture of living peoples, archaeologists study past societies. Instead of directly observing behavior, we must infer behavior based on patterns of material culture and human remains preserved in the archaeological record. This seminar highlights some of methods used to extrapolate dynamic behaviors from static material record.

Friday, February 25, 11am-12pm
