Join Professor and Chair of Elementary Education Judith Cruzado-Guerrero to learn about how you can gain teaching experience in a Spanish speaking community on our faculty-led study abroad program in the Dominican Republic in Summer 2022.

Student who participate in the TU Teach in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic  program will teach English and work with students whose first language is Spanish and/or Creole while engaging in community learning and exploring the country’s language and culture. The program will provide opportunities to integrate strategies to teach and work with students in educational settings as well as strategies to work in collaboration with families, communities, and other professionals. Program highlights include visits to Fort San Felipe, El Mercado, el Teleférico, a cacao farm, and the Puerto Plata waterfalls and beaches. Program participants may choose from one of the following courses:

  • ECED 458 Field-Based Practicum Experiences in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Settings (3 credits)
  • ECED 494 Travel and Study: Early Childhood Education (3 credits)
  • ECED 749 Travel and Study: Early Childhood Education (grad only; 3 credits)
  • ELED 494 Travel and Study: Elementary Education (3 credits)
  • ELED 594 Travel and Study: Elementary Education (grad only; 3 credits)
