Teacher Technology Competencies: Insights from the Literature and the Field Experts

The purpose of this sabbatical research was to develop a tool to measure technology integration competencies for pre-service and in-service teachers, aligned to the ISTE technology standards for educators and InTASC Core Teaching Standards.

Specifically, this sabbatical research aimed to accomplish two goals:

  1. Identify and develop a list of teacher technology integration competency statements.
  2. Test the list of competency statements through expert reviews.

Based on the findings from the literature, 32 competency statements were developed in three topics that included knowledge, skills, and beliefs and attitudes. Then, 35 field experts were invited to review and comment on these statements. Among these experts were 14 university professors, 11 STEM or technology specialists, and 10 classroom teachers.
