Today is Data Privacy Day! Here’s how you can protect data and promote privacy at home or at TU

Today is international Data Privacy Day, and Towson University joins the National Cyber Security Alliance in this global effort as a The Office of Information Security encourages TU to be #PrivacyAware by promoting awareness of the importance of privacy and protecting personal information.

Join the Data Privacy Day effort

  • Follow TU’s official technology accounts on Twitter @TechAtTU and Facebook @TechnologyAtTU for privacy and security tips.
  • Check out the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s  THINK.CONNECT. website for cyber resources.

 Protect your Privacy

At home:

  • Manage personal privacy settings. Evaluate accounts and device privacy settings for apps and websites. Configure personal account settings to make it more difficult for hackers to steal your information. The National Cyber Security Alliance’s website provides direct links to update your privacy settings on popular devices and online services.
  • Share with care. Think before you post online, especially personal details about your location or family members.
  • Protect your passwords. Don’t share them with anyone!

At TU:

  • Understand university data. Check out TU’s Data Privacy webpage to learn about types of data, how it is classified and handled at the university.
  • Report suspicious emails: on a desktop/laptop use the “Report phish” button in Outlook, on a mobile device forward it to phishing@towson.edu.
  • Tell us about comprised accounts. If you believe your account has been compromised, or if you have questions or need technical assistance, submit a TechHelp service request or contact the Office of Technology Services at 410-704-5151.​
