Ride the MTA for Free

A new Maryland law provides free ridership services for all regular USM faculty and staff members on Maryland Transit Administration’s (MTA) systems.  Regular status TU faculty and staff can use the Light Rail, the Baltimore Metro Subway, local bus service, and commuter bus service lines 120, 150, and 160 in the Baltimore region at no charge. The free Mass Transit Benefit currently does not include the MARC trains, any special event buses, or any commuter buses other than lines 120, 150 and 160.

The MTA has provided a sticker that can be affixed to regular university faculty and staff identification cards.  In order to access transit, regular faculty and staff will be required to present their university ID badge with the sticker affixed to it.

Stickers are available at the Office of Human Resources, suite 101 in the Administration building between 8:00 and 5:00. Regular status faculty and staff can present their current ID (in person) and receive a sticker.

As part of the roll-out of this new program, MTA has communicated to MTA staff and operators and is continuing to provide training.  Any issues with using your TU badge with the affixed sticker can be reported to Jasmine Nance or Nailah Barksdale in the Office of Human Resources at 704-2162, and should include the route and time of boarding.

Per the requirements of the legislation, this benefit is only extended to regular status faculty and staff. To remain in compliance with the law, contingent status staff, adjunct faculty, and lecturers cannot be issued a sticker.
