Interfaith Meditation Room

The Office of Inclusion and Institutional Equity in partnership with the Office of the Provost is happy to announce the opening of the Interfaith Meditation Room. Faculty and students have voiced a need for this very important space that highlights the vibrant faith, religious, and spiritual diversity at Towson University.

This initial space is one of several future steps to accommodate and support students, faculty, and staff in reflection and meditation while on campus. Temporary summer space will be provided until permanent spaces are identified.

The temporary space is centrally located in Room 404B of Cook Library through August 6, 2019. The space will be available from 10 a.m. to the close of Cook Library each day. As this space is primarily for scheduled faculty development activities sponsored by the Office of Academic Innovation (OAI), the space may not be available; as a result, any necessary adjusted hours will be posted daily.

Simple, but intentional furnishings provide for logistical flexibility of the space to cater to the needs of various faith, religious, and spiritual traditions.

The OAI and Cook Library will manage the space. Guidelines are:

·         The room is to be used meditation and reflection, not as a lounge, study room, meeting room, or for other purposes not  involved in prayer and meditation. Please respect the requirement for a peaceful, quiet atmosphere.

·         Animals are not allowed in the room.

·         The use of fire, including lit candles or incense is not permitted.

·         No food or beverages are allowed in this room.

·         Please keep the room clean. All personal and group materials are to be removed from the space after use. Please leave the space better than you found it.

·         Symbols of faith must be removed after each individual or group usage, and the overall tone of the room shall be religiously neutral.
