When should I use the “Swap” and “Waitlist” features?

SWAP FEATURE

  • Use the “Swap” feature if you are currently enrolled in a class but want to take a different section of the same class (ex: ENGL102-001 vs ENGL102-003) or if you are enrolled in a class and want to switch to a different class (ex: ENGL102 vs HIST145).

WAITLIST FEATURE

  • The “Waitlist” feature is for classes that are currently full.
  • When you try to enroll, you will get a message that the class is full and instructions on how to add yourself to the waitlist by clicking on the class link (COMM300-001) and select the waitlist checkbox.
  • You will not be enrolled in the class from the “Waitlist” if you:
    • are currently enrolled in a different section of the same class
    • have already reached your permitted unit load
    • have not met the prerequisites for the class that you are waitlisted for
    • have registration holds
    • are currently enrolled in a course that conflicts with the meeting time of the waitlisted class

USING SWAP IN CONJUNCTION WITH WAITLIST

  • If you are currently enrolled in another section of the same class or are in a class that has a time conflict with the waitlisted class:
    • use the “swap” feature to enroll in the waitlisted class
    • swap the enrolled or conflicting class with the closed section, choosing the waitlist option
  • Once space is available in the waitlisted section, the system will automatically swap the enrolled class with the waitlisted class.
  • If you use the “Waitlist” instead of the “Swap” feature the system will prevent you from being enrolled in the class because it sees that you are already registered for that class.
