Sabbatical Presentation by Lea Ramsdell, Department of Foreign Languages

Lea Ramsdell, Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages, will deliver her sabbatical lecture on Wednesday, April 3, at 3:30pm in the College of Liberal Arts in LA 4150. Her talk is entitled “Garifuna Language Retention Through Story and Song.” The Afro-Indigenous Garifuna Nation spans the Atlantic coastal regions of Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Belize as well as urban centers in the United States. Their language is considered endangered, but through the community’s rich tradition of story and song, efforts are underway to revive it.
