Blackboard navigation improvements
In January, you’ll notice simple but powerful changes to Blackboard navigation. These updates are designed to help you find what you need faster, click less, and make tasks simpler in Blackboard.
Why the changes?
Anthology Blackboard listened to feedback and made focused improvements to solve common reported usability issues like wasted screen space, accidental clicks, slow performance, unclear navigation and visual distractions. This is the first wave of improvements, with additional updates planned for later in 2026.
What to expect
Anthology plans to release these changes as part of their monthly update on Jan. 8, but timing is approximate and could vary by a few days:
- A cleaner and simplified look. The main navigation tabs will have a cleaner layout, making them easier to access with less clutter.
- Improved content view. Top-level panels will open in full screen, such as Course Content Homepage, Calendar, Announcements, Discussions, Gradebook, Analytics, Groups, and Achievements. The full-width course banner image will display the course ID and title at the top of the header bar for better contextual clarity.
- Profile on top. Your User Profile, complete with your profile image, will be at the very top, helping you clearly see and customize your identity.
- Course menu: The course menu will be located at the top of the header bar, featuring highlighting colors for a more prominent look.
- Home button: The “X” button that exited the course will be replaced with a Home Button, returning you to the TU-defined landing page.
- Course switcher: A course switcher will be located in the top left of the navigation bar for streamlined navigation between courses.
