Reminder: TU Foundation & University Advancement Holiday Schedule
As many of you are aware, the end of the calendar year tends to be a busy time for gift processing. Many donors make their charitable contributions on or around December 31 to take advantage of tax deductions for the calendar year.
To assist you in your planning, please note the following:
- Donors should be advised to send their gifts via the U.S. postal service to the Towson University Foundation lockbox at the following address:

- Checks that are not sent to the lockbox and are also not made payable to the Towson University Foundation will require a signed Deposit Authorization letter from the original donor. The best way to avoid this processing delay is to encourage donors to send their checks to the lockbox address above.
- For tax receipting purposes, credit card gifts are deductible in the year when the charges occur on the card owner’s account. Donors are encouraged to make their credit card gifts through the TU online giving site at towson.edu/giving by midnight EST on December 31, 2025, to be processed in and receipted for calendar year 2025.
- The IRS continues their interest in ensuring that tax receipts issued for charitable contributions are substantiated with appropriate documentation, which includes verification of the date of gift. For gifts or pledge payments made by check, the postmark date on the envelope confirms the gift date. Therefore, if checks are received on campus, FROM DECEMBER 15, 2025, THROUGH JANUARY 15, 2026, MAILING ENVELOPES MUST ACCOMPANY CHECKS SUBMITTED TO THE TUF OR UNIVERSITY ADVANCEMENT.
- Our last cash and check deposit of 2025 will be on Friday, December 19, 2025 (cash and checks need to be received by the TU Foundation by noon on Friday, December 19, 2025). Our next cash and check deposit will be on Monday, January 5, 2026, as we take time off to observe the holiday break.
- In order for donors to be receipted for calendar year 2025, we will accept checks accompanied by envelopes postmarked December 31, 2025, or earlier until Thursday, January 15, 2026. Any gifts or pledge payments received in our office after that date, regardless of postmark date, will be receipted in calendar year 2026.
- PLEASE DO NOT HOLD ON TO CHECKS. Route them to the TU Foundation as you receive them in order to avoid delays in receipting and acknowledging our donors.
- The TU Foundation and University Advancement will be closed Monday, December 22 – Friday, January 2. We will be responding to email and voice mail messages during that time.
