HR end-of-year deadlines: hiring, contract renewals, personal leave reminders
As the year comes to a close, the Office of Human Resources would like to remind the TU campus community of important deadlines approaching the holiday season. Please take note of the following:
Benefits Reminders: Regular Exempt/Non-Exempt Staff, 12-month Faculty & Librarians
- Holiday Leave: All personal and accrued holiday leave must be used by January 6, 2026, or it will be forfeited.
- Annual Leave Carryover: The maximum annual leave that can be carried into 2026 is 60 days (480 hours). Any leave over this limit must be used by January 6, 2026, or it will be forfeited.
- Personal Leave: Any unused personal leave in 2025 will be forfeited. Personal leave for 2026 becomes available starting January 7, 2026.
- Check Leave Balance: Go to myTU, visit the timesheet dashboard, click leave balance in the gold banner above your timesheetFor questions, email: leavebenefits@towson.edu
Hiring Deadlines:
- Last New Hire Session of 2025: The final new hire session of 2025 will be on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. To have a new hire start on that day, offer requests must be approved by Tuesday, December 2, 2025 (we recommend submitting by Monday, November 24, 2025).
- Contingent New Hires: New hires starting before the end of 2025 should have approved offers by Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
- New Hire Session for 2026: The first new hire session of 2026 will take place on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. To have a new hire start on that day, offer requests must be approved by Friday, December 12, 2025 (we recommend submitting by Monday, December 8, 2025).
- Late December New Hires: If offers are approved after December 12, 2025, the earliest date that a new hire will be able to start is Wednesday, January 14, 2026 ( we recommend submitting by Wednesday, December 10, 2025)
Job Postings:
- To have a position posted by the end of 2025, the requisition must be approved by Tuesday, 12/16/25 ( we recommend submitting by Tuesday, 12/9/25)
Contingent I Renewals:
- To renew a Contingent I contract before the end of the year, the renewal must be approved by Wednesday, December 10, 2025 (we recommend submitting by Wednesday, December 3, 2025).
Please meet these deadlines to ensure a smooth transition into the new year!
