October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month

This year’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month theme is “Stay Safe Online.” TU’s Office of Information Security & Privacy (OISP) stresses that small actions can make a big difference. That’s why we’re focusing on the core four the easy steps anyone can take to boost their online safety:

  • Learn to spot and report phishing: see real examples of current scams in the TU Phish Tank and learn how to recognize and report scam emails from your TU inbox at towson.edu/phishing.
  • Create strong passwords: It’s important that each one is unique, long, and has a mix of characters. See TU’s password guidelines.
  • Use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): TU already uses Duo MFA, which adds an extra layer of security to online accounts. Consider enabling MFA on your personal accounts.
  • Perform software updates: keep software up to date to protect against vulnerabilities. University computers are updated by OTS, learn more about mobile device security.

You can access these resources and get more info at towson.edu/securityawareness

If you have questions about cybersecurity or staying safe online at TU, submit a TechHelp service request to OISP.
