HCM Cloud discovery project update fall 2025

The HCM Cloud Discovery Project has concluded with 334 faculty and staff completing the change readiness survey. Based on the results and budget considerations, we are adjusting our approach to HR technology improvements.

We Need Your Input

This initiative aims to help us best serve the campus, and for that, we need to prioritize services and needs. Please help us prioritize which improvements should be addressed first by submitting your feedback on the top priorities through our online form by September 19, 2025.

More information can be found here.

Key Findings

Survey results showed that while faculty and staff value updating HR technology, they prioritize having adequate resources (people, funding, and training) for successful implementation. Responses also highlighted concerns about change fatigue.

Project Status

Following the Discovery Project, costs for full-scale HCM implementation significantly escalated. Given current budget conditions, we are pausing the full implementation and instead focusing on critical short-term operational improvements.

Priority Improvement Areas

The project team identified these key opportunities:

  • Employee Self-Service: Allow users to submit transactions directly within the system
  • Talent Management: Expand employee goals and performance management capabilities
  • Position Management: Support workforce planning and compensation evaluation
  • Onboarding/Offboarding: Implement automated checklists and task tracking
  • Compliance: Continue improvements supporting federal, state, and USM requirements.

This modernization initiative will allow us to serve the campus best moving forward. On behalf of the Office of Human Resources, we thank you for your participation.
