Sabbatical Research Presentations – College of Health Professions

Devon Dobrosielski, PhD, Sleeping Through a Sabbatical

Dr. Dobrosielski, Professor of Exercise Science in the Department of Kinesiology, focuses his research on the interrelationships between exercise performance, sleep, and chronic disease. In his presentation, he will share why sleep has taken center stage in his exercise science research and outline his future plans to help improve the human condition.

Jacob Bustad, PhD, Active Bodies and the Bay: Embodiment and Environment

This presentation will highlight research projects related to human physical activity and the environment, specifically focusing on the water and waterfronts of the Chesapeake Bay in the greater Baltimore region.  These projects incorporate three dimensions and directions of research that trace or follow the relationship between sport, recreation, and water: from the greater Bay, through the protected spaces of public parks along the Chesapeake and in the Chesapeake watershed, and onto and into the urban waterfronts of Baltimore.

These projects are framed by a collective research question: How are the practices, forms, and experiences of human physical activity in and near water related to social, economic, and ecological factors and impacts?
