Physics, Astronomy & Geosciences Presents a Public Planetarium Show
“The Hot and Energetic Universe”
High Energy Astrophysics probes hot gas in clusters of galaxies, which are the most massive objects in the universe. It also probes hot gas accreting around supermassive black holes in the centers of galaxies. Closer to home, high energy radiation reveals important information about our own galaxy, neutron stars, supernova remnants, and even stars like our Sun.
ESA’s XMM-Newton and Integral missions are leading the exploration of the X-ray and gamma-ray universe. ESA‘s X-ray mission ATHENA, to be launched in 2028, will carry the most sensitive X-ray telescope ever and it will be the flagship of all high X-ray missions.
Run time: 30 minutes
Recommended Ages: 14 and up
Telescope viewing with the days getting longer and daylight savings time pushing nightfall even later, telescope viewing will most likely be delayed until 7:30pm or so. However, weather permitting, we will have the observatory open!
Enter the campus from Research Way from York Road. The Science Complex is on the right. Free parking is available free from 3 p.m on Friday through Sunday in the Glen Parking Garage, directly across from the Science Complex.
