Today: CLA Black History Month Film Festival

The Black Film Festival features films edited, directed and/or produced by Sam Pollard, who will deliver this year’s Gissendanner Lecture.  Following the screening of each film viewing, the audience is invited to join in a discussion led by TU faculty and students.  Refreshments will be served.

The time and location for the films are: 5:30pm in LA 4310.

Feb. 18: Lowndes County and the Road to Black Power

An award-winning documentary that tells the amazing story of the struggle for Black voting rights in Lowndes County, Alabama where local activists and young organizers from the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) fought one of the most dangerous battles of the Civil Rights era. Through first-person accounts and fascinating archival footage, the film brings to life one of the key moments in the struggle for Black political power.

Feb. 25: Through the Lens: Sam Pollard on the Art of Film Making

Using clips from some of his notable films, award winning film maker Sam Pollard will take the audience through the process of editing and directing both dramatic and documentary films. With over forty years of experience and some of the most noteworthy documentaries and feature films to his credit, Pollard is one of the most accomplished film makers of his time.
