Data Privacy: Principles to guide handling of PII at TU

Did you know? Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is any information used to directly or indirectly identify an individual, including their full name.

TU’s Office of Information of Security & Privacy reminds the campus there are university standards for determining what type of data is in each system (Data Classification Standard), how it’s collected/used (Data Use Standard) and why it’s needed and who is responsible for it (Data Governance).

TU’s enhanced data privacy principles can be viewed at towson.edu/dataprivacy. These principles will help guide decisions regarding collection, storage, and use of PII.

Questions about data privacy can be submitted to OISP through a TechHelp service request.
