Sabbatical Presentation by Vincent Thomas, Department of Dance, College of Fine Arts and Communication
Vincent Thomas, Professor in the Department of Dance, presents his sabbatical talk on Friday, October 18 on Zoom. The title of his presentation is “Opera & Gardens & Praise! Oh MY!!!”
Dance Professor Vincent Thomas will present an overview of the creative journeys of three major artistic projects- INTELLIGENCE Opera, Gardens of Clay, and Praise! Project.
- As Associate Choreographer for the new opera INTELLIGENCE, directed and choreographed by Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, music by Jake Heggie, which premiered at Houston Grand Opera (HGO).
- As the Artistic Director for the Gardens of Clay project, a multi-generational, multi-year dance and movement exploration of the impeccable moments of living dance legend Clay Taliaferro, Professor of the Practice Emeritus of Dance at Duke University.
- As a co-creator of the Praise! Project, an investigation of self and spirit through a child’s experience of church. Through dance, song, storytelling, and religious fantasy, the two performers crisscross memory, liturgy, and the Heavenly spheres to re-construct coming-of-age within the modern mythos of god/God/Christ.
This sabbatical talk will be presented as part of COFAC’s Colloquium 66 on Friday, October 18, at 3:00pm on Zoom.
