October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month!
Cybersecurity Awareness Month highlights the importance of everyday actions to stay safe online and with connected devices. Here are some practical steps you can take, now and year-round, to protect yourself online:
- Enable multi-factor authentication – if you don’t use Duo MFA for your TU account yet, you can opt in now! Learn about MFA and using it on your personal accounts in this National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) article.
- Use strong passwords or a password manager – see TU password guidelines or NCA guidance on strong passwords and password managers.
- Update software – TU-managed devices are updated by the Office of Technology Services. Learn more about updating software on personal devices in this NCA article.
- Recognize and report phishing – think before you click! Forward suspicious email in your TU account to phishing@towson.edu, then delete. Launch the TU Phish Tank to see current scams. See the NCA article for tips on handling phishing email in a personal account.
You can find these tips and more resources at towson.edu/securityawareness.
