Study abroad FOR FREE in Summer 2025: Critical Language Scholarship Info. Session TODAY
Come learn how you can study a critical need language abroad through a FULLY FUNDED program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State! The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is a summer study abroad opportunity for American college and university students to learn languages essential to America’s engagement with the world. Undergraduate and graduate students who are U.S. citizens or nationals are eligible to apply.

About the CLS:
The CLS Program is part of a U.S. government effort to expand dramatically the number of Americans studying and mastering critical foreign languages. Students of diverse disciplines and majors are encouraged to apply. Participants are expected to continue their language study beyond the scholarship period, and later apply their critical language skills in their future professional careers.
Each summer, CLS provides rigorous academic instruction in several languages that are critical to America’s national security and economic prosperity. CLS participants are citizen ambassadors, sharing American values and promoting American influence abroad. Interested but never learned these languages before? Not all language options require prior study experience!

IMPORTANT: All students (except those participating in a TU faculty-led program) must attend a Group Advising session and meet with a Study Abroad & Away Advisor if applying for the CLS Program. Group Advising sessions are held in person Monday through Friday at 2:00 pm in Rm. #408 on the 4th floor of the Psychology Building. Virtual Group Advising sessions take place Mondays and Thursdays at 11:00 am via Zoom. No need to RSVP in advance!
