Call for Applications – Assistant Director, Office of Competitive Fellowships and Awards

The Office of Competitive Fellowships and Awards (OCFA) at Towson University encourages and supports students seeking to advance their educational and career goals through highly competitive fellowships and awards available nationally and globally. Aligned with TU’s strategic plan, OCFA provides tailored mentoring to advance all TU students to apply for these awards and scholarships.

Position Description

The Assistant Director of Competitive Fellowships and Awards (CFA) will support the director and work collaboratively across campus to advance the mission of OCFA and recruit and provide one-on-one mentoring of students applying for these awards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide support in identifying students and guiding students to apply for awards and fellowships.
  • Provide edits and feedback on application materials as permitted.
  • Provide mock interviews.
  • Support the OCFA annual event and other workshops and events related to OCFA.
  • Collect and aggregate data for annual assessment and reports.
  • Respond to all OCFA related email communications in a timely manner.
  • Serve on OCFA selection committees.
  • Conduct regular office hours for students including some after hours and weekends.
  • Support the marketing of OCFA to prospective students, current students, and alumni, and on social media, specifically Instagram and X.
  • Draft nomination letters for awards by internal deadlines.
  • Provide major support to the Fulbright Campus nomination process.

The OCFA Assistant Director shall be a tenured TU faculty member or permanent faculty librarian. For faculty, the position shall be a 0.50 FTE with a reduced teaching load in the fall and spring semesters, and fall, spring and summer stipends. For faculty librarians, the position shall be a 12-month 0.50 FTE appointment. Approval by the relevant college/library dean and department chair are required. Reporting to the Director of OCFA, the incoming OCFA assistant director shall assume duties in January 2025.
