NSF Major Research Instrumentation (MRI): Internal App Due August 1 – Apply Now
The National Science Foundation (NSF) offers a Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program for instrument acquisition of development. The solicitation limits the number of proposals from an institution, hence this internal solicitation invites initial proposal ideas, from which the most promising submissions will be selected to support for full submission. The selection committee will include deans and chairs from the appropriate colleges.
Deadline for Internal Submission: August 1, 2024
Selection Decision: August 15, 2024
Deadline for Submission to NSF: October 15, 2024-November 15, 2024
Project Period for Acquisition: 36 months
Project Period for Development: 60 months

The solicitation is divided into three tracks with different award amounts:
Track 1: (Maximum 2 application per institution) $100K – $1.4 million
Track 2: (Maximum 1 application per institution) $1.4 million – $4 million
Track 3: (Maximum 1 application per institution) $100K – $4 million (emphasis on helium reduction, see below for details)
