July TUSS News for Staff
The Towson University Staff Senate (TUSS) is the advocate body for all university staff employees. All TU staff are general members of the Senate and are encouraged to attend general meetings. Our meetings are opportunities for all staff employees to be involved in institutional planning and amplify staff input. Join us!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE RECENT TUSS MEETING:
- VP Bradley talked about new Title IX regulations being published. Must be implemented by August 1, 2024. OIIE has been tasked to review and provide recommendations for implementation.
- Save the Date – Towson University DEI Summit – Friday, November 1, 2024.
- First full paycheck with COLA and Merit will be July 31, 2024.

- President’s cabinet is discussing TU’s response to the statewide reduction announced recently. More information will be forthcoming
- A shoutout was given to all those who made the 2024 Special Olympics on our campus successful.
- There are a number of searches going on, visit https://www.towson.edu/hr and remember that we have a referral bonus program.
- A shoutout was given to the campus for completing the performance review and compliance training process.
- HR encouraged faculty and staff members to review a recent TU Today post about how to access pay information, including historical trending, in PeopleSoft: https://tutoday.towson.edu/2024/07/11/staff-and-faculty-pay-adjustments-2024-2/
- HR shared a presentation about dispute resolution and mediation options.
- The 4-day telework pilot program with OTS is expected to begin in August. HR is working to identify assessment criteria. Steve Jones is meeting with the group quarterly to monitor.
- A shoutout was given to the Operations and Maintenance staff for helping the campus get through the heat wave. Thermostat changes were not for cost saving, but to prevent system failures.
- President Ginsberg continues to advocate for long-term capital projects for campus – including a new electrical substation that is needed.
- The new College of Health Professions building will be fully operational for the fall 2024 semester.
- COVID stickers and related plexiglass barriers are being removed campus-wide. The goal is to have things removed by August 1st. Facilities is looking at ways to reuse plexiglass.
- The revised Top Tiger nomination form is live. You can now nominate a group or an individual and all recipients receive a pin and a certificate.
- The election committee is working to fill newly created seats before the August meeting.
- A lively discussion was held on proposed amendments to secondary and outside employment policy. The Policy Review Committee submitted a written report on the policy and individual Senators also expressed feedback on the policy. HR will review feedback from the Senate.
- CUSS News: UMES will be launching the first and only veterinary medicine program in the state.
- CUSS News: CUSS awards and outreach committee will be polling staff about CUSS visibility.

- The next TUSS general meeting is August 14, 2024. (second week due to start of semester preparations.) Send agenda items to TUSS@towson.edu before August 6, please. General members are welcome to submit items for consideration and encouraged to attend online.
- The TUSS Awards Committee and the TUSS Events and Engagement Committee are open to general members. If you’re interested in joining, reach out to TUSS@towson.edu.
