CHP Road Closures July to August 2024

The College of  Health Professions building is now ready for classes, so the repaving of University Avenue is underway. While temporarily disruptive, this work is essential for enhancing pedestrian safety and movement and improving campus access.  

Campus Impacts: 

  • Traffic Impact: Expect one-way traffic and partial road closures to accommodate new paving and crosswalk upgrades. 
  • Timeline: Temporary closures and detours will occur from July 8, 2024, to August 3, 2024. 
  • Pedestrian Access: Temporary ADA-accessible routes and pathways will be adjusted during this time only.  
  • Bus Stops: Kenilworth and Goucher stops will be relocated to the Union Garage lower-level loop from July 8, 2024, to August 3, 2024. 

Phased Closures: 

  1. Total Closure #1 (July 12 – July 27, weather permitting): 
  • University Avenue between Burke Avenue and Linthicum Drive will be closed. 
  • Access to locations along University Avenue will be available via Towsontown Boulevard 
  • Detour signs will be in place. Closure and detour signs will be 24/7 during July 12-27. 
  1. One Lane Closure #2 (July 15 – July 20, weather permitting): 
  • University Avenue will be reduced to a single lane alternating traffic between Towsontown Blvd. and Linthicum Drive. 
  1. Partial Closure (July 15-July 20) 
  • Newell Avenue will be reduced to a single lane alternating traffic for re-pavement.  
  • During construction activities, traffic control flaggers and pedestrian detour signs will guide traffic between 6 am and 6 pm. 
  1. Total Closure #3 (July 29 – August 3, weather permitting): 
  • University Avenue between Linthicum Drive and Towsontown Garage entrance will be closed. 
  • Access to locations along University Avenue will be available via Towsontown Boulevard and Burke Avenue.  
  • Detour signs will be in place. 
  • Closure and detour signs will be active 24/7 from July 29- August 3.
