Upcoming Changes to ArcGIS Licensing
Please be aware of a few changes coming to TU’s ArcGIS/Esri licensing in the next few months.
- Esri is shifting to named user licensing for license provisioning which means TU will be moving to SSO for access to ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro in the coming months. More information to come on this soon.
- With the introduction of ArcGIS Pro in 2015, Esri has been phasing out ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap and ArcCatalog). As of July 1, 2024, ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) will no longer be included in educational licensing. Existing Desktop licenses will remain valid until August 30, 2024. When TU’s Esri licensing renews on September 1, 2024, no Desktop licenses will be included. For more information, see this announcement. If anyone has yet to make the switch from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro, the Center for GIS would be happy to set up a working group session to answer questions and kickstart the process – please reach out to gishelp@towson.edu if that’s of interest or you have any questions!
For more information about the GIS resources that are available to the TU community, check out our page, Towson University GIS Tools.
