Spring 2024 Commencement – Parking and Traffic Impacts & Information

Towson University’s Spring Commencement ceremonies will be held on Wednesday, May 22, Thursday, May 23, and Friday, May 24, 2024. Two ceremonies will be held each day at TU Arena, and more than 10,000 graduates and guests are expected on campus over the three days.

Please expect and prepare for significant impacts on parking and traffic across the campus and the surrounding roads from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 22 – May 24. The Parking & Transportation Service offices will be closed during this period to provide full support for the TU commencement ceremonies.

Parking Restrictions & Shuttle Information

  • Restricted Parking for Employees and Volunteers— Commencement parking permits and/or Accessible ADA permits/plates are mandatory in all Stadium Lots 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 located near TU Arena and Johnny Unitas Stadium. Faculty/staff (F/S) working in the stadium area should see their supervisor about obtaining a commencement permit to access the area during these days. If unable to obtain a commencement permit, F/S must park in general Union or Glenn garage parking areas.  If parking in the Union or Glenn garages, please do NOT park in ANY spots marked as reserved.
  • General parking for commencement guests and F/S without a commencement (graduation) permit will be available in the Union & Glen garages on a first-come, first-served basis. Shuttles to/from the stadium area will be available at the shelters on the Glen/Union garage side of Cross Campus Drive. Due to the limited availability of general parking, those attending commencement ceremonies who work on-campus are strongly encouraged to carpool with someone with a Commencement permit or utilize shuttles.
  • Rideshare and other pick-ups or drop-offs – There are no designated locations near the stadium, Towson Center, or TU Arena for pick-ups and drop-offs. To avoid traffic congestion, NO pick-ups or drop-offs (including Uber/Lyft) will be allowed at the Stadium, Towson Center, and/or TU Arena areas and lots
  • For pick-ups/drop-offs, please proceed to the ground-level loop of the Union garage. (Towsontown Blvd, to the right on Osler, to the left at Emerson). Shuttles will be available on Cross Campus outside of the 3rd level of the Union garage to take guests directly to the TU Arena.
  • All graduates are strongly encouraged to have guests carpool in the vehicle with the commencement permit.

Miscellaneous Information for Graduating Students:

  • The parking lots open two hours before the ceremony starts (8 a.m. and 1 p.m.). Those arriving before the parking lots are available may be redirected to the Union Garage.
  • Shuttles will begin operating at 8:00 a.m. to take guests from the Union Garage directly to the TU Arena/Stadium area. They will continue to operate through the ceremonies and up to 60 minutes after the last ceremony ends.
