TU’s IWB Launches New Community Health & Resilience in Parkinson’s Program!
Did You Know TU’s College of Health Professions has Its Own Outpatient Therapy Clinic?
Located at 7400 York Rd., the Institute for Well-Being (IWB) serves the Greater Baltimore Community with a diverse array of therapeutic programs and services for both adults and children. Home to multiple centers of excellence such as the Hearing and Balance Center, Hussman Center for Adults with Autism, Occupational Therapy Center, and the Speech-Language Center, the clinic transcends traditional care. It fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, enabling healthcare students from various disciplines to work alongside licensed clinicians. Together, they plan and conduct sessions that merge educational learning with professional care, ensuring a comprehensive approach to health and wellness.
Program Spotlight: Community Health & Resilience in Parkinson’s (CHRP)
The Occupational Therapy Center at the IWB is proud to introduce an innovative program designed for individuals living with Parkinson’s Disease. The CHRP Program, led by Heather Barnes, OTR/L, who is certified in LSVT BIG—an evidence-based Parkinson’s therapy—aims to enhance wellness through:
- Biweekly group sessions that promote peer support and collective growth.
- Proven strategies for maintaining health and managing symptoms.
- A network of social and emotional support for participants.
- Life skills training to encourage independence at home and in the community.
- High amplitude movement exercises based on LSVT principles.
- Comprehensive education tailored for clients and their caregivers.
