March 27, 2024 | 5:00 PM | CLA 4310
Dr. Jennifer Caplan will discuss the relationship between Jews and humor in America.
Funny, You Don’t Look Funny is the first monograph to consider the relationship between Jewish humor and Judaism as a religion. The book traces four generations of American Jewish comedians to investigate the way American Jews have related to Judaism in their humor, and what that says about American Jewish life in different periods. This talk will delve into why the book came to focus on generations of Jews, and what the book’s findings may tell us about the health and future of American Judaism.
