Doing Inclusive Education Differently with Guest Presenter: Dr. Tim Corcoran, Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia

Thursday, February 22nd
12:00 — 1:00 p.m.
Hawkins Hall 305 or via Zoom

Presented by the Department of Elementary Education

For educators pursuing equitable and inclusive practice, concerns with many educational theory/practice orientations are easily raised (i.e., ableism). This seminar invites advocates of inclusive practices to consider two alternate theoretical options. The first, ecologies, is offered as a means to appreciate the connectedness of living events. Five prospective conditions necessary for the employment of ecologies are surveyed. Together, these conditions support a commitment to psychosocial justice. If equity, diversity, and inclusion are central to educational theory/practice, psychological and social matters must be addressed as a unified relationality. There, concerns should always attend to how psychology comes to life rather than what psychology is said to be.
