International Education Week – thank you for celebrating!

On behalf of TU International,

Many thanks to all the international students, past and future study abroad students, faculty, and staff who helped celebrate International Education Week 2023.

While we celebrate our international students and activities every day, last week was special. On Monday, one of our largest crowds in recent memory came out to raise new flags to represent our international students on campus. A special thank you to TU Athletics for coming out to cheer on Aminata Diakite, a guard on the women’s basketball team, as she raised the flag of her home country Mali.

Other highlights included Chalk the Flags at Tiger Plaza and an International Photo Booth, where students, staff, and faculty snapped pictures showing virtual trips from Australia to Rome, and many places in between! In partnership with the TU Counseling Center, the International Student and Scholar Office and English Language Center provided Global Messages of Kindness in multiple languages, which were shared and reciprocated with other students.

The Study Abroad and Away Office held sessions to highlight various aspects of studying abroad and away, including programming focused on affordability, internships and career readiness, LGBTQ+ issues, and domestic exchange opportunities for international students.

The week concluded with an All Around the World celebration, led by the Global Village Learning Community in Residence Tower, where students exchanged information on history, language, and culture of their home countries while sharing an international meal catered by several Towson-area restaurants.

Towson is a welcoming community for students from around the world thanks to the hard work and dedication of so many. Thanks to everyone for keeping TU international!
