Only a few days left to nominate staff for USM Board of Regents Staff Award!
Make the contributions of an outstanding staff employee widely known by nominating them for a USM Board of Regents (BOR) Staff Award. This award, presented annually by the University System of Maryland (USM), is the highest honor bestowed upon full-time non-exempt and exempt staff employees with at least 5 years of service in the University System.
Staff, faculty, alumni, students, and members of the external community are encouraged to nominate TU staff members in the award category that best reflects their nominee’s contributions. Full award category details may be found on the BOR Staff Awards page of the Towson University Staff Senate (TUSS) website.
- exceptional contribution to the institution and/or unit to which the person belongs
- outstanding service to students in an academic or residential environment
- extraordinary public service to the university or greater community
- effectiveness and efficiency
- inclusion, multiculturalism, and social justice
Nominating someone is easy:
- Review the Overview document on the BOR Staff Awards page and tell the nominee you are nominating them.
- Complete the cover sheet, position description form, and your nomination letter using the forms linked on the BOR Staff Awards page. (Be certain to follow the stated formatting for all letters.)
- Submit all three items as a single PDF to the TU Staff Senate Awards Committee, BORStaffAwards@towson.edu, by November 13. Note: The Awards Committee will work with Human Resources and/or the divisional Vice President to verify each nominee is in good standing with the university, not on probation or on a performance improvement plan.
Tips for submitting a compelling nomination:
- Describe the impact. The nomination and recommendation letters are opportunities to provide details about the nominee’s exceptional contributions. The nomination letter should state the category for which the nominee is being nominated and give testimony of exemplary performance in that category. Recommendation letter(s), typically completed by someone other than the nominator, should describe in detail exactly how the writer has been impacted by the nominee as related to the nomination category. Recommendation letters should not be a copy of the nomination letter.
- Include measurable results. Where possible, include measurable results (e.g., monetary savings, a new product or service, clients receiving goods or services in a timelier and/or professional manner, staff morale increasing, students being more informed and better prepared for success at TU and beyond, new partnerships developed, support of TU priorities, etc.).
- Keep recognizing. If you submitted a nomination last year, consider revising it and citing more recent, specific examples of contributions made over this year and resubmit.
Nominate yourself or someone who makes TU a better place by November 13!
