Prof. cicada (they/it) earned their Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, & Culture from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2021. Their research focuses on meaning-making practices about gender, with a focus on trans* identity, cis/heteronormativity, sound media, and the aesthetics of nostalgia. cicada teaches trans* media and communication, popular culture communication, and intercultural communication (or whatever class lets them talk about monstrosity). Outside of academia, cicada is a passionate tabletop Keeper for a queer, rural Monster of the Week campaign called Pinevale about monsters, murder mysteries, and embracing your desires.
