Postal Services – Resident package/letter mail FAQ’s
Towson Tiger Resident Students! As we start a new academic year, Postal Services wants to share changes that have been made in how mail and packages are being delivered to residential students. These changes were made to give students more flexibility to pick up letter mail or packages. Most letter mail and packages are now available for pick up from the newly installed package lockers located in the University Union which is open from 7am – 11:30pm between Monday – Friday, Saturday 7am – Midnight, and Sunday, 9am – 11:30pm.
We are also in the process of adding additional package lockers in the Union Garage which will then provide access 24/7. We anticipate this to be completed by late October.
As has been our practice in the past, you will be notified via email when there is letter mail or a package ready for you to pick up. This email will also include instructions on where your items will be located. Some items, including larger packages, will only be available for pick up from the postal services customer service counter. The email you receive will give you instructions for pick-up.
It is important to note that your package carrier (FedEx, UPS, USPS, Amazon) might send you a message that your package has been delivered. Please wait for an email from TU Postal Services before coming to pick up the item since we have to process and account for the delivery which may take additional time.
We recognize that it may take some time to adjust to these changes and appreciate your flexibility as we transition this service.
We believe the benefits of extended available pick-up times with the installation of the new package lockers in both the Union Building and Union Garage will give students more flexibility with retrieving their incoming letter mail and packages.
Listed below are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that we hope are helpful. If you have any additional questions or need more information, contact Postal Services.
FAQ’s
Q1- I received a notification from the delivery company (FEDEX, Amazon, …) when can I get my package?
- Your package/letter mail will NOT be available for pick-up until you receive an email from TU – Postal Services. Typically, packages/letter mail will be available within 1-2 business days after you receive notification from the delivery company.
Q2 – How do I know if my package will be in a locker, or if I have to pick it up for the Postal Services “Mail Room” counter?
- Please check the top of the email for the location of where the package will be available – Locker or Mail Room Pickup.
- If “Mail Room”, please be ready to provide your “mailbox” number for quicker service.
Q3 – What are the hours for pick-up?
- Packages in lockers can be picked up anytime the University Union is open – typically 7 am – 11pm, 7 days a week.
- Postal Services “Mail Room” pickup is available 9am – 4:00 pm., Monday – Friday.
Q4 – I received the notice from the delivery company over 3 business days ago, but haven’t received a notice from TU. What do I do?
- There are times packages are not addressed properly to include the First & Last Name, mailbox number, 8000 York Road, Towson, MD 21252. This requires additional research and will delay processing your package. If it has been more than 3 business days from the delivery company notification, please send a detailed email with tracking information, first & last name, TU ID number and mailbox number to postoffice@towson.edu. We will research the information and respond within 2-3 business days.
