British Theatre, Culture & Society (Study Abroad Opportunity)

Study in the UK in summer 2024! Explore the works of Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Caryl Churchill, Sarah Kane and other British playwrights from historical, textual, and cultural perspectives. Develop an understanding of how the history and culture of a society is intertwined with the art that is created. Experience theatrical workshops, guest lectures, museum visits, and live performances.

The program is based in the UK’s capital city – London – with a day excursion to the Roman city of Bath. Highlights include tours of the Tower of London, the Theatre Royal Bath, the Barbican Centre, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, visits to the Globe Theatre (where Shakespeare once performed his plays), the Tate Modern, and a show in London’s famed West End . No prior theatre experience is necessary.

Participants will take one of the following courses for a total of 3 credits with Professor Donna Fox: THEA 488 Theatre Visitation and Analysis Abroad (3 credits), THEA 100 Introduction to Theatre (3 credits, Core 5), THEA 471 Advanced Special Topics (3 credits), or THEA 271 Special Topics (3 credits).

Full program details and the application are available in Horizons.
