Blacks in Great Britain: From Liverpool to London (Study Abroad Opportunity)
Study Black life and culture in the UK in January 2024! Based in Birmingham, one of the largest and most diverse cities in England, participants will explore key sites of Black life throughout the country. Learn about what it means to be “Black” in the UK and trace the history of slavery in Great Britain.
The program features guest lectures by local experts, day trips to Liverpool, Bristol, Leeds, and Newcastle and three days in London. Highlights include visits to the International Slavery Museum, a tour of Brixton, a Black History Walking tour, and a visit to the British Film Institute.
Participants will take SOCI 370 Topics in Sociology (3 credits) with Dr. Jason Freeman.
