Sabbatical Presentation by Stuart Stein, Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art Education, College of Fine Arts and Communication
Stuart Stein, Professor in the Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art Education, presents his sabbatical talk on Friday, April 21, 3:00pm on Zoom. The title of his presentation is “In Search of Unknowing.”
Unknowing is a condition of openness. This unknowing in the intersubjective space of two people or people of two cultures allows others to be. This art of unknowing may enable a nurse to understand, with empathy, the actual essence of the meaning an experience has for a patient. In Stein’s process of Painting, Unknowing is the intersubjective space between artist and canvas. It is a suspension of conscious knowledge. Stein’s sabbatical work searches for the spaces with figures in space that create periods of unknowing. This work pursued a combining of figures and space in ways that were unexplored in past work.
Professor Stein’s sabbatical talk will be presented as part of COFAC’s Colloquium 56 on Friday, April 21, at 3:00pm on Zoom.
