Black Arts District Historical Photography Project
Join Angela Carroll, Lead Curator of the Historical Photography Project, for a professional development workshop where attendees will learn about the black arts district historical photography project and curricula developed for grades 5-12.
Thursday, April 13th
12:30-2 p.m.
Via Zoom
The Historical Photography Project (“HPP”) is an initiative of the Black Arts District which seeks to counter histories of disinvestment that have exacerbated the loss of cultural memory for communities in the Pennsylvania Avenue corridor of West Baltimore. The project emphasizes an anti-displacement framework that empowers Black creatives and continues the community-based revitalization efforts in West Baltimore through culture, arts, and entertainment.
Following an overview of the curriculum, its origins, goals, outcomes, and activities (including available resources), participants will explore various ways this curriculum can be incorporated into Towson courses and faculty-led initiatives.
This workshop will be valuable for anyone who teaches methods or theory courses about the following subject areas:
- urban space renewal
- community organizing
- oral histories in Black communities
- photography and the arts
- arts education
- civic engagement
- urban planning
- social justice in neighborhoods and schools.
This workshop is brought to you by the College of Education Department of Elementary Education.
