Faculty: creating your syllabi? Consider including this info about changes to student email and file storage/sharing
The Office of Technology Services (OTS) will be migrating student email, calendar and file storage from Google to Microsoft 365 this spring/summer. Email addresses aren’t changing when they move from Gmail to Microsoft Outlook. You can continue to use TU student email addresses to contact them as you do now.
Here’s how you can help:
- Include a mention of this project in your syllabi. You are the best source of information for your students! Consider copying and pasting this text: All student Gmail and Google Drive files will be migrated to M365 Outlook and OneDrive. Students can opt-in to be moved early or be moved automatically after the spring term ends. See details and timeline at towson.edu/M365forStudents. If you need help, contact Student Computing Services at towson.edu/scs or 410-704-5151.
- Start using OneDrive now to share files with students. All students, faculty and staff already have Microsoft 365 OneDrive. See how to use Microsoft at TU. Blackboard has a OneDrive feature for both Original and Ultra Courses.
- Move your TU files from personal Google drives. If you have non-confidential academic files stored on a personal Google drive, move them to OneDrive. Files containing confidential TU data should always be stored on a SecureShare.
- Encourage students to opt-in early. They can sign up to be moved early instead of waiting until the final move at the end of the term. The link to the form is also on the project webpage.
