Campus Sustainability Month Activities
October is Campus Sustainability Month! Join us for a variety of activities throughout the month to raise awareness of the value of sustainability at Towson University. Find the current list of events and ways to get involved below:
October 5 and 19
Campus Recreation at Burdick Hall
2 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Join Outdoor Adventures and the Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drug Prevention Center for a walk through the Glen Arboretum, followed by a mindfulness activity.
October 6 and 7
Glen Arboretum near the Challenge Course
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Stop by the Glen to see the goats hard at work removing invasive species. Sponsored by The Glen Arboretum.
Eco Craftivism – Invasive Species
October 6
University Union, 321B
4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Build a mini ecosystem out of felt and discuss invasive and native species. Supplies provided. Sponsored by the Office of Civic Engagement + Social Responsibility (CESR).
October 6, 13, 20, and 27
TU Urban Farm (located behind Administration Building Parking lot)
4 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Join Sustainability Intern Hailey every Thursday afternoon and help weed, plant and harvest at the TU Urban Farm. No gardening experience required.
Invasive Species Removal
October 7
Glen Arboretum
1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Help remove invasive Japanese stiltgrass from the Glen Arboretum. Email lschuma1@students.towson.edu if you are interested in volunteering.
October 13
Tiger Plaza
4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
An outdoor event where environmentally focused departments, clubs, and organizations will be tabling and hosting games and activities for the student body. Sponsored by CESR.
Stormwater Management Walking Tour
October 19
Burdick Hall (entrance facing the Union)
3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Join Landscape services for a guided stroll through campus to see the many techniques and practices used to make Towson a more sustainable and eco-friendlier place. Sponsored by CESR.
Tree Planting & Trail Maintenance
October 28 (Rain date: November 11)
Glen Arboretum
1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Help plant trees and spread woodchips beneath the trees and along trails in the Glen Arboretum. Limited volunteers spots available. Email lschuma1@students.towson.edu if you are interested in volunteering.
